Every year, millions of chickens are killed at the age of 18 months due to a decrease in their production. Whereas they can live an average of 6 years. At Poulehouse, the chickens are fed, cared for and raised in open air until their natural death.
Duration: 60 seconds
Concept: A second chance for hens
In the egg industry, hens are typically culled once they stop laying eggs, usually after 18 months. At Poulehouse, things are different. Here, hens are cared for and allowed to live, because an egg should never cost a hen’s life.
The film tells the story of a condemned hen, no longer laying, who is about to be sent to the grinder. But as the egg factory closes for the night, she is granted an unexpected reprieve. Refusing to let her go, her fellow hens band together to build fake eggs, hoping to outsmart fate and save her from her tragic destiny.
A moving and meaningful story that embodies the philosophy of Poulehouse: giving hens a dignified life beyond their productivity.
